Adante Pointer of ‘Lawyers For The People’ holds an outstanding portfolio filled with grit and passion for justice. The Oakland bred lawyer became an agent of change by graduating from U.C Berkely with honors, earning a bachelor’s degree in Political Science Juris and a Doctorate at Hastings College of the Law in San Franciso. With over 16 years at the Law Offices of John Buris, Adante Pointer has represented dozens of families in personal injury cases and police brutality.

Adante Pointer is most known for his victory in Oscar Grant’s family case against BART police officer Mehserle who shot and killed Mr. Grant as he lay face down on a BART station platform. Blockbuster later turned the tragedy into a film called “Fruitvale Station,” starring Michael B Jordan in 2013. In my recent interview with Adante I had the pleasure of really grasping the astonishing work Pointer has been contributing to the community.

In 2019 Adante Pointer experienced an unfortunate encounter with Oakland Police Department after being pulled over and made to crawl on the ground under threats of being shot.

The traumatizing encounter pushed Pointer further in his fight against unruly police officers who continue to disappoint the people they are assigned to protect and serve. Pointer has represented over 10,000 victims and counting throughout his career and continues to provide resources and avenues to educate underserve d communities through his law firm.

The activist has rightfully received numerous awards and honors such as Super Lawyer: 2012 SuperLawyer Magazine Rising Star, Nations Best Advocate: 2012, Minority Bar Coalition: 2016 Unity Award Winner, and the 2017 UC Hastings La Raza Association Leadership Award, to name a few.
