I was really tempted to highlight throwbacks this week in honor of Lovers & Friends Fest this weekend, but there’s a lot of new music that I’m still making my way through and I found another week’s worth of 💎 gems. Get into it, yuh:
Not sure why it took me so long to listen to this song, I’ve definitely seen it pop up all over my social media and suggested playlists. My only issue with this song is that I wish it was longer, but it certainly is sweet even if it’s short.
Miss Priscilla Renea aka Muni Long is not letting up, she’s been coming lately with so many back to back to back hits to remind us all that her pen has been describing our heartbreaks for years. Remember that this is the same talent that gave us Rihanna’s “California King Bed”.
Y’all should have known I was going to put my boyfriend Dylan on this week’s list, we FINALLY got the album, and it’s everything I was looking for. Dylan Sinclair has been on a few of my lists over the past few weeks and it’s really a testament to how much I actually love listening to his tone. I’m obsessed, clearly. The Canadian R&B boys have been EATING.
I felt right at home listening to this song, this is so me. This is the kind of song I want to listen to while I do laundry, while I water my plants, while I clean my makeup brushes, and clean out my fridge— this is the song I want to listen to when I feel most me. Not trying to impress anyone, not trying to perform, not doing anything but resetting my hectic life to serve my needs.
The funky baseline on this alone will make you feel good, but Lucky Daye sounds sooooo good here. He’s in the pocket on this beat and the melody is smooth as hell. All of these songs evoking these 70s skate rink vibes are really starting to piss me off, as if I need any more reminders that I can’t skate. I should have taken the chance during quarantine to learn. Damn.
Ummmmmm, so “He Wasn’t Man Enough” is one of my favorite Toni Braxton songs of ALL time, and I never thought I’d hear it sampled like this. And like it. Sheesh.
Ooof, so moody! Is this what the emo kids are listening to these days? If so, y’all kinda snapped, sign me up all over again please. Demi Lovato can be a little annoying to me, not gonna lie, but there is no denying their talent, and they sound so pretty on this song.
I’ve made it a challenge to find y’all a Forever 21 bop every week, and here’s this week’s. It’s what you’d expect from The Chainsmokers and by that I mean a sneak bop. Been stuck in my head all day.
I’m not holding my breath for a movie about the most famous swag biter (we are all aware that Elvis is a culture thief) but this is a dope song. Doja Cat will body whatever you give to her and for that, this song deserves a listen. The sampled Hound Dog hook is infectious.
These lists just expose how easy I am to please when it comes to music, put Ty Dolla $ign on a hook or a chorus and I’m going to contribute half the week’s streams. I typically shoot for more substantive lyrical content in a song, but I can appreciate a simple song as much as the next person.
If you want to listen along with me, follow the playlists linked above– updated every Friday! I want to know your picks too, leave a comment or DM me on IG and put me on to what you’re listening to this week. Catch y’all next week 👋
