At the end of November, pictures of Jake Gyllenhaal in his upcoming 2015 film Southpaw went viral because he was unrecognizable, thanks to a newly ripped boxer’s physique. It’s a time-honored tradition in Hollywood for actors and actresses to dramatically change their bodies to fully inhabit the characters they play, but it’s not easy and it usually requires a savvy team to make it happen. We tracked down a few of the pros responsible for sculpting some of Hollywood’s hottest bodies to find out exactly what it takes.

Think of any superhero movie that’s been released in the last 10 years and there’s a good chance Bobby Strom and his wife Alicia had a hand in transforming the leads into ass-kicking, six-pack-sporting machines. The duo trained Scarlett Johansson for Iron Man 2, Jessica Biel for Blade Trinity, andBlake Lively and Ryan Reynolds for Green Lantern, to name just a few. While it generally takes months of work and commitment, every situation is different. “With Scarlett, she dropped a few pounds of fat and added a few pounds of lean muscle. On somebody her size, it’s very obvious,” Strom explains. “Ryan Reynolds is six-three and very long limbed, so you need to add a lot to see a visual change.”

Basically, a thirty-minute jaunt on the elliptical a few times a week isn’t going to cut it if you’re trying to bulk up or get lean. Deadline reports that Gyllenhaal trained twice a day every day with real boxing coaches for several months. Strom has his clients work out five to six days a week doing various combinations of resistance training with equipment and their own body weight, cardio drills like sprinting and rowing, and core and balance training, without any breaks in between exercises. (Core training is especially important if an actor is doing his or her own stunts—it might look sexy on camera, but it also helps prevent injuries.)

For 2014’s Gone Girl, Rosamund Pike had to gain and lose weight four times while shooting according to her trainer, Holly Lawson, who’s also a professional boxer. Lawson spent every day for about six months with Pike before and during shooting. “We had two and a half weeks to put weight on her, she went to film in Missouri, and then she came back and we had 10 days to take all that weight off her,” Lawson says. To accomplish this, Lawson had Pike put on almost eight pounds of muscle with heavy lifting and a very specific eating plan (more on that in a minute).

Shawn Thompson, Director of Multicultural Affairs, enthusiastically and poignantly pointed out, “These are not Towncars anymore.” The sleek designs and power of Lincoln solidify the fact that the American company is moving forward with reinventing their DNA.

This was not your routine affair, but something special whereas attendees were provided the opportunity to experience the Lincoln brand, complete with test drives of the model of their choice. Sunny skies and palm trees blowing in the wind along the Santa Monica coastline created an ideal scene for all partaking in the informational Ride and Drive. In typical Automotive Rhythms fashion, patrons also enjoyed an afternoon of art illustrations, couture fashion, complimentary food and beverages and live entertainment.

An Afternoon of Indulgence was hosted by mother, international model, designer, wine mogul and TV personality Nicole Murphy. Given her powerful impact within the entertainment industry, it was only fitting that she put her stamp of approval on the indulgent afternoon which kicked off the 2014 LA Auto Show. This spectacular event was accentuated by style and cutting-edge designs from House of Kas upon the backdrop of the beautiful Santa Monica Pier. A live art installation was performed by Demont Peekaso while Grammy nominated recording artist Raheem DeVaughn engaged the crowd with his melodious music during two energetic sets. Lincoln’s three pillars — Art, Design and Culture — were conveyed and synthesized perfectly by Automotive Rhythms which prides itself for creating memorable urban automotive experiences.

Lincoln’s MKC is the second of four all-new Lincoln vehicles due by 2016 with a powerful, and efficient all-EcoBoost engine lineup complemented by an array of premium amenities and technologies prioritizing comfort and convenience. We couldn’t mention this new Lincoln without pointing out the enhanced THX II Certified Audio System, an industry-first featuring THX-distributed bass technology and 14 right, center and left slot speaker assemblies.

As sleek and stylish as the Navigator and MKC are, the Viceroy Santa Monica was transformed into a stunning and intimate boutique for an Afternoon of Indulgence’s gathering of celebrities, pro athletes musicians, influencers and tastemakers.

THX also provided sounds and home entertainment through 60” HD screens, while DJ B-Hen sound-tracked the afternoon with an eclectic mix of soulful vibes. Lincoln aficionados dined on complimentary hors d’oeuvres from the Viceroy and tastings provided by Trapiche Wine. Dazing swag bags for all test drive participants came complete with Lincoln premium coolers, Mothers car care products, Boss Life Cigars, auto show tickets, specialty paintings and a $750 Lincoln discount toward the purchase of any new vehicle.

GRAMMY NOMINATED B.O.B. TAKES THE STAGE @ SXSW FOR THE “DARMAA AND FRIENDS” CONCERT SERIES

Grammy Nominated Artist B.o.B. took the stage at the “Darnaa and Friends” SXSW Concert Series at LOT 323 presented by Starbuzz Hookah and Cliffhanger Production.  
 
Recording Artist Darnaa is celebrated the independent spirit of SXSW by hosting “Darnaa and Friends” at LOT 323. The three-day long pop-up event, that happened within the festival, included day parties, daily multi-genre indie concerts, and concluded with a Starbuzz Hookah EDM Glow Party each night (complete with celebrity EDM DJ).  
 
Each evening the songstress took the stage for a live performance. On Saturday she surprised attendees with a show from Hip Hop Megastar B.o.B. During his riveting performance the emcee stage dives, crowd surfs and even picks up a young fan.  Both DJ Drama and DJ Whoo Kid attended the performance.
